Robert (Bob) Ilgen April 14, 1937 – April 14, 2025
Bob passed away peacefully with his wife by his side. It was a blessing that he could be at home with her during his last days.
Born in Panama City, Panama in 1937, Bob was one of three children, along with his brother William and sister Victoria, of Berle Ilgen and Catalina Fabrega Ilgen. Catalina died when Bob was two. Berle returned to the United States for work, while the children stayed in Panama with family.
Berle remarried, Garnet Kalsched in 1943 and brought the children north in 1944 The family settled in San Gabriel, a suburb of Los Angeles. Garnet gave birth to two sons, Gary and Jon.
After graduating from high school, Bob earned a scholarship to Yale University. Completing his studies there, he attended the Haas School of Business at U.C. Berkeley, graduating with a master’s degree.
Bob started his career with Standard Oil of California (now Chevron). In 1964 he was transferred to Louisville, Kentucky where he met his wife Judy. They were married in 1971. When Chevron consolidated operations in 1977, Bob and Judy moved to Concord, California.
Taking early retirement, Bob devoted his time to gardening, adult education classes, and helping friends and family. Bob and Judy enjoyed going to concerts and plays, were members of two senior potluck groups, and above all, enjoying the companionship of being with each other’s best friend.
Bob is loved and will always be remembered for caring soul, his outstanding sense of humor, and his steadfast devotion to his friends and his family.
