Phil and I married in 1962 in Milwaukee. Upon his graduation from Northwestern Law School and mine from Northwestern University, we drove to California. LA was fascinating and much much warmer! We bought an old mediterranean-style home in Santa Monica and raised our kids, Anne and Pete.
Phil worked for the LA County District Attorney’s Office. His booming baritone voice served him well in the courtroom, his fellow DAs became life-long friends, and he loved the work. Upon his retirement, he was in charge of Branch and Area Offices. To give some idea of the DA’s size, the office had about 1000 employees then.
Phil played pick-up basketball and slo-pitch baseball and hiked the Sierras. We both learned to ski at a (too) advanced age. Our children married, both families live in California, and we have four delightful grandchildren.
In 1995 Phil was diagnosed with bladder cancer. He died in 1998. He left our family with wonderful memories… and boxes and boxes of the electric trains that he had collected and armies of lead soldiers that he painted.
I remarried last May to a widower I met on vacation in Egypt. Mike is a physicist who worked for TRW and Maui Economic Development Board. We continue to live in Santa Monica in the same “old mediterranean house” that’s now even older!
