Dr. Joseph “Joe” Sheppard Minus ASHEVILLE, NC – Dr. JOSEPH “JOE” SHEPPARD MINUS, 75, formerly of Charleston, SC, and Shelby, NC, passed away on February 4, 2014 in Asheville, NC. Born in Columbia, he was the son of Paul Murray Minus and Mildred Sheppard Minus. He is a graduate of Yale University and Duke Medical School, and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1968-70. He joined the Shelby Children’s Clinic as a pediatrician in 1970, where he treated children and comforted countless parents with caring hands and a kind heart until his retirement in 1997. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Elizabeth Clyburn Minus of Asheville; his three children, Joseph Sheppard Minus, Jr. and wife, Jennifer, of Fairfax, VA, Daniel Murray Minus and wife, Diane, of New York City, NY and Elizabeth Minus Whitehead and husband, Jason, of Denver, CO; and six grandchildren; as well as his siblings, Betty Minus Young of Charleston, and Paul Murray Minus, Jr. of Claremont, CA. He offered his leadership skills and creativity on numerous committees at Aldersgate United Methodist Church and in the community, especially Habitat for Humanity. He also was an avid hobbyist and outdoorsman who enjoyed gardening, farming, wood and metal working, and cooking. Services will be held Saturday, 2:00 p.m., at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends 3:00-5:00 p.m., following the service, at the church. Revs. Sylvia Wilhelm, David Clyburd, and Paul Minus, officiating.
