Jonathan Dayton BECK Obituary
BECK, Jonathan Dayton 6/19/1939 – 6/8/2016 76 years old, born in Evanston, IL June 19, 1939, died naturally of heart failure on June 8, 2016. Jon is preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Beresford Beck; brother, David. Jon is survived by wife, Jean of 54 years; by daughter, Amy Gallo (Adam); son, Jeffrey (Edward Matson) and three grandchildren, Ana, Nina and Crista Gallo. Jon had asthma at an early age and came to Tucson in 1942. Jon was educated at Green Fields Country Day School (Tucson), the Thacher School (Ojai, CA), Yale University (New Haven, CT) and the University of Ariz. where he graduated with a degree in mining and metallurgical engineering. After a short time working for Kennecott Copper, Hayden, AZ Jon became a commodity broker for close to 50 years. Jon enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, pottery, welding, framing his wife’s watercolors, golf (admittedly lousy), bird hunting (admittedly terrific) and spending time with family and friends. A member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity at the UofA, Jon was a “bridge builder” for hundreds of men over the years. A Service will be held at St. Philips In the Hills on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Beresford E.
