Phil lived his entire life in North Andover, Mass. He attended the local public schools and then spent four years at Brooks School where he was one of the first Brooks School/North Andover scholarship recipients. While at Brooks, he was a four sport varsity athlete, baseball captain and graduated first in his class. Four years at Yale followed where he continued his baseball as varsity catcher for three years. After Yale he attended and graduated from Boston University Law School, reading for the Law Review.
Despite job offers from Boston law firms and after 6 months serving in the US Army Reserves (Ft. Knox), he returned to the North Andover area to begin his early law practice with a local District Court judge and the North Andover Town Counsel. During this period he was an original member of the Greater Lawrence Legal Aid Ass’n, assistant Pro-Tem Clerk of the Lawrence District Court, member of the North Andover Zoning Board of Appeals, President of the Lawrence Bar Ass’n, reader for the Mass Bar Exam, and counsel to various local charitable organizations.
Eventually he joined three colleagues in an Andover, Mass law office where he continued to practice for more than 25 years until illness caused him to retire. Phil married his wife Susan (who survives him) during this period.
