MAURIN, Gaston Casimir Gaston Casimir Maurin died on July 17, 2015 at 4:25 pm at the Belmont Village Turtle Creek Memory Care Facility in Dallas, Texas, in the presence of several friends and his beloved husband. He is survived by his partner of 29 years and husband of two years, Kyle Kerr, along with many friends and family members. A celebration of his life will be held later this summer. Born September 30, 1939, in Corpus Christi, Texas, Gaston was the only child of Evelyn Buckley Maurin and Gaston Francois Maurin. He received a B.A. in English from Yale University in 1961. He spent his business career in Marketing and Education Development with IBM, retiring early in 1992. Gaston’s great passion was music, especially opera. He and Kyle were patrons of many local arts organizations, including The Dallas Opera, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Irving Lyric Stage, Dallas Theater Center and Uptown Players. They also traveled frequently to performances at the Santa Fe Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Fort Worth Opera, Glimmerglass, Seattle Opera, performances on Broadway in New York City and the Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. A highly knowledgeable and witty raconteur, Gaston loved joining friends for a good meal, good opera and conversation. His enthusiasm for the arts and especially his amazing knowledge and keen insights into opera are cherished gifts that will long be remembered by those who had the good fortune to have known him.
