Ed earned a Bachelor’s degree in Botany from Yale and his Doctorate from the Albert Einstein School of Medicine in New York City in 1965. He had worked for 37 years at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York City, providing medical care for the homeless through the Department of Community Medicine.

He was a Past President of the Men’s Club of Temple Beth-El Mekor Chayim of Cranford, NJ. Born in Hartford, he had lived in Cranford, NJ for 38 years . A devoted husband, father and grandfather; he is survived by his wife, Fern Cagan, three children and five grandchildren.

Obituary:

Dr. Edward Cagan, 68, a long-time resident of Cranford, NJ, died peacefully at his home on Thursday (June 7, 2007). Funeral services were held on Sunday, June 10 at Temple Beth-El Mekor Chayim, Cranford, NJ. The internment was at the Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge, NJ. Arrangements were by the Menorah Chapels at Millburn, 2950 Vaux Hall Rd., Union, NJ. Dr. Cagan was a 37-year employee of St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York City, providing medical care for the homeless through the Department of Community Medicine. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Botany from Yale University in 1961 and his Doctorate from the Albert Einstein School of Medicine in New York City in 1965. He was the Past President of the Men’s Club of Temple Beth-El Mekor Chayim of Cranford, NJ. Born in Hartford, he lived in New York City before moving to Cranford 38 years ago. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife, Fern Cagan; children Hayley Kamis, Keith Cagan and Elissa Gordon; sons-in-law Alan Kamis and Ken Gordon; daughter-in-law Sue Cagan; and grandchildren Matthew Kamis, Brianna and Marissa Cagan, Gillian and Alexa Gordon. He was predeceased by his brother Fred Cagan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent’s Hospital Department of Community Medicine, Temple Beth-El Mekor Chayim, Dana Farber Cancer Center in Boston, MA, or the Center for Hope Hospice and Palliative Care in Scotch Plains, NJ.
