A graduate of Lake Forest High School (’57) and Yale University (’61). Chuck was an exceptional student and athlete. A history major at Yale and a member of Pierson and Delta Kappa Epsilon. It was on a fabled spring break trip in 1961 that Chuck met the love of his life, Miss Wendy DeFoe. They were married in July 1962 in New York City.

An always faithful United States Marine, Chuck completed his basic training at Quantico, VA. in June 1962 and was stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC. He served with the 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment on the USS Wahkiakum County during the Cuba Missile Crisis and received his honorable discharge as a First Lieutenant in Feb. 1968.

Chuck began his career in financial services at White, Weld & Co. in Chicago. He went on to Chicago Corporation and the CBOE, where he was an advisor and mentor to many. He retired from ABN Amro (Sr. VP) in 2005. A member at Exmoor Country Club since 1973, he served as chairman of the Greens and Grounds committee, Club President (1992-1993) and was a long-time supporter of the Evans Scholarship program.

Chuck and Wendy continued to travel after retirement with trips to Mexico, Europe, Russia, Greece, Turkey, Egypt and Jerusalem. He was a voracious reader with a thirst for learning about people and the world. He loved his family, history, Chicago sports, rock and roll, practical jokes and trips to the beach. Chuck was most proud of his grandsons and the fine young men they have become. He was their biggest fan.

Chuck’s family would like to extend their gratitude to the caregivers who supported us and helped get Dad home for Thanksgiving – Jared, Alex, Eva and the entire staff at Fresenius Kidney Care in Lake Bluff, IL.

Charles A Lane, Jr. was laid to rest on Christmas Eve in a private ceremony at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Lake Forest, IL. He is survived by his daughters, Lucy and Hilary Lane and grandsons, Jack and Cal Wonham. Memorial contributions can be made in Chuck’s name to the Yale Class of 1961 Cancer Center Endowment.
